Welcome y'all! For those who are new, this is a blog about all my present and future experiences as a dance major in college along with the opportunities that I may go through in life as a developing artist and teacher. Wish I would've started this idea my freshman year because I think it is a great way to showcase my experiences with the world as well as to hopefully inspire other dancers! Now, I know what you must be thinking: So this girl wants to pursue a professional career as a dancer but ALSO get a degree to be a teacher? that's ludacris. Why yes, yes it might be, but for me it's the perfect combination. Deciding to go to college for dance is a tremendous decision as well as a personal one. I have friends who have gone the professional route right away and I applaud them for doing such a courageous act. Other dancers like me, want to follow up on education, get a degree earlier as well as learn other genres of dance. This is why I think teaching comes in handy and is so well embedded with dance: Whatever I learn from my professors and dance in general, i hope to transmit to future generations through enjoying being an artist myself. Now, let me tell you a thing: this balancing act between aspiring to become an artist as well as living a normal academic life in college is NOT easy. Having to deal with technique classes, rehearsals, projects, core classes, choreographing for shows, being an officer in an organization, going to honor society meetings, teaching Pre-ballet class every Saturday, trying to socialize with your non-dance friends as much as your dance family, wanting to go to football games (come on stronghorns!), properly exercising (or doing crossfit), going to dance class at you favorite studio, trying to eat properly around a tight schedule, getting enough sleep, etc... Did I mention I have an internship this fall semester? well, you get the point. HOWEVER, its is NOT impossible to do all of these things. it is not impossible to both have a dance life and a normal life (and I will get into the dance life in more details later on on the blog). At this time of your life, if you're a dance major or want to become one, is all about having the right mentality. You MUST stay positive no matter what, knowing that you will have strong support from family, friends, and even your dance faculty (yes, they are simply awesome with suggestions and life advice, they went through what we are going through!). This is what I say to you: impossible? no. I'm - possible. That's how people should think. everything is possible with the right attitude and mind. a person who falls down and gets up in life is stronger than a person who never falls. So, with all these factors is mind, I hope to make you all feel something positive from the things I experience, do, or say. All I seek from this blog is to share my passion and love of dance. More importantly, I must thank my beautiful friend, Anna Ingram, for inspiring me to start a blog in the first place! She has made her own to depict her wonderful journey as an exchange student in Angers, France for the semester along with three other wonderful dance friends of mine. She is just ADORBS. you MUST check out her blog too! "I can do all things through him who strengthens me" - Philippians 4:13 - Stay humble friends, Veronica |
